The Barrier Between Two Seas
Where two oceans meet but do not mix completely
The Quran describes a 'barrier' (barzakh) between two seas that meet but do not completely mix. Oceanographers in 1962 confirmed this phenomenon — distinct water bodies of different salinity and density meet but maintain a visible boundary.
The phenomenon was first published by researchers in the 1950s-60s. In 1962, the Strait of Gibraltar study showed Mediterranean and Atlantic waters meet with a clear interface. Modern oceanography has documented this in many places (Strait of Hormuz, Bab-el-Mandeb, etc.).
Classical scholars (Qurtubi, Ibn Kathir) read these verses as a sign of Allah's power — the miracle being that two different seas (salty/fresh, or two oceans) maintain distinct identities despite meeting. The exact mechanism was not discussed.
The two-seas phenomenon is real and well-documented. The Quranic language describes the observable behavior (a barrier between waters). This is among the stronger concordances, with the classical tafsir also discussing the phenomenon. The limit: this is not a 'proof of the Quran' — it is a description of an observable fact.
