The Earth's Movement and Round Earth
The rotation of the earth and day/night cycle
The Quran describes the alternation of day and night, the wrapping of night around day, and the orbital movement of the sun and moon. These are consistent with a round, rotating Earth.
The Earth's rotation was proposed by Copernicus (1543) and established by Galileo (1610). The day/night cycle is a direct consequence of this rotation. The 'wrapping' language (yukawwir) in 39:5 is a vivid description of the phenomenon.
Classical tafsir did not debate the shape of the Earth. The dominant view in classical Islamic scholarship was the Ptolemaic model (round, geocentric Earth). The Quranic verses were understood as describing Allah's signs in nature, not as cosmological claims.
The Quranic verses do not explicitly state that the Earth is round or rotates. They are consistent with those facts, but the classical scholars who lived in a geocentric world understood them differently. This is a moderate-strength concordance, not a specific prediction.
